The contrast ratio of a projector can be improved through a non-uniform illumination of the image-forming element. This can be achieved by inserting a deformable reflective surface into the light path of the projector, between the projector lamp and the DMD or LCD. The deformable surface can be an array of analog tip and tilt mirrors, or a simple mirror device such as the one demonstrated in this paper. %8 03/09/2008
